Clay & Concrete Tile Roofing Across Flagler, Volusia and St. Johns County

Tile is the roof Florida architecture was built for — barrel and flat profiles in clay and concrete that shrug off UV, resist wind uplift when properly attached, and routinely outlive the people who install them.  Across Palm Coast's planned communities, the Spanish-revival streets of St. Augustine, and the beachside neighborhoods of Ormond and Daytona, tile is everywhere.

It is also the roof most often misunderstood.  On a tile roof the tile is the armor and the underlayment beneath it is what actually keeps water out — and the two do not age at the same rate.  Sound tile over dead underlayment is the most common tile roof we are called to look at, and it is why a tile roof can need work while still looking perfect from the street.

At R&K Certified Roofing of Florida, Inc., we have worked on tile since 1987 from our shop in Bunnell, and we are a Crown Roof Tile partner.  We will tell you honestly whether you are looking at a repair or a re-roof, and show you the underlayment photos behind that answer.

Common Roofing Problems Tile Solves — and the Ones Tile Creates

  • Hurricane-Force Winds — Correctly attached tile resists uplift; the failure is almost always the attachment, not the tile.
  • Relentless UV & Heat — Clay and concrete do not degrade in sun the way asphalt does.
  • Salt Air — Tile itself does not corrode, which is why it performs so well near the water.
  • Aging Underlayment — The hidden clock. Underlayment has a far shorter service life than the tile above it.
  • Slipped & Cracked Tile — Wind can break a tile's attachment without breaking the tile, leaving an invisible gap in the water path.
  • Foot Traffic Damage — Tile has to be walked correctly. Careless inspections crack a trail of tiles that leak a year later.
  • Hip, Ridge & Valley Failures — Where tile roofs come apart first, and where uplift pressure is highest.
We assess the whole system — tile, attachment, underlayment and flashing — not just the surface.

Our Tile Roofing Services

  • Tile Roof Repair → Slipped, cracked and broken tile replaced with matching profile.
  • Tile Re-Roof & Underlayment Replacement → Tile lifted, sorted and reset over new underlayment.
  • New Tile Roof Installation → Clay and concrete, barrel and flat profiles, in Crown Roof Tile and other premium systems.
  • Storm Damage Assessment → Documented inspections built for insurance claims.
  • Hip & Ridge Rebuilds → The details that fail first, repaired properly.
  • Tile Roof Inspections → We lift tile and photograph the underlayment. If nobody looked underneath, nobody inspected your roof.
  • Flashing & Penetration Repair → Chimneys, skylights, vents and wall transitions.
Tile repair is genuinely worth doing — the tile so often outlives everything around it.

Why Choose R&K Certified Roofing for Tile?

  • Tile Is a Different Trade — Walked wrong, a tile roof is damaged by the inspection itself. Our crews know how to move on it.
  • Crown Roof Tile Partner — Access to matching profiles, which is what makes a repair invisible.
  • Local Since 1987 — Based in Bunnell, working these roofs for 39 years.
  • Licensed & Insured — CCC1328712 and CGC1526358.
  • Underlayment Honesty — We show you photographs of what is under the tile before recommending anything.
  • Storm Response — Fast assessment and documentation after a named storm.
  • BBB A+ Rated — With hundreds of Google reviews from Flagler and Volusia homeowners.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tile Roofing

Q: Why would my tile roof need work if the tile looks fine?
A: Because the tile is not the waterproofing. The underlayment beneath it is, and it has a much shorter service life. Sound tile over failed underlayment is the most common tile roof we see.
Q: Can individual tiles be replaced?
A: Yes, and it is worth doing promptly. Isolated slipped or cracked tiles, failed ridge sections and bad flashing are all repairable — and repairing them is what protects the underlayment.
Q: How do I know if a storm damaged my tile roof?
A: Look along the ridge and hip lines for tiles sitting crooked or low, check the ground for tile fragments, and watch the soffit for staining. Stay off the roof — walking tile causes the damage you are looking for.
Q: Is tile better than shingle in a hurricane?
A: Correctly attached tile performs very well against wind. The variable is the attachment method and its condition, not the tile itself.
Q: Why does a tile re-roof cost more than shingle?
A: The tile has to come off, be sorted and stored, and go back down over new underlayment, or be replaced with matching profile. It is a longer job with more handling.

Our twenty-year-old roof had taken all it could from Florida sun, hurricanes, and wind.  As it was clearly maintenance, the roof would be paid for by my wife and me.  Yes, I also looked at dozens of roofing company reviews including worksites in my area to see for myself how the work crews were and even how long it took to complete the job. When the time came to make the decision, R&K Certified Roofing came out on top.  Should you choose R&K as we did, you will have struck gold.  The owner, Mr. Ken Reed was amazing  with his time, kindness, and especially integrity he gave to us.  Mr. Reed was there each day to ensure the job was being done correctly and also to see if we had any concerns.  (Of course we were very happy.) A gentleman named "Doc" and the highly trained crew were extremely professional, kind, and very hard-working and we hope they enjoyed the cookies, brownies, and popsicles my wife gave to them each day. We cannot thank Mr. Ken Reed enough for all his kindness, caring, and again, integrity.  If you are in need of replacing your roof with the best of the best, call R&K Certified Roofing.  You'll be glad you did.

Worked with me every step of the way. Saved me 10k by letting me know about a program from the state for low-income seniors. Everything was just perfect. Found something I thought was long since gone, honesty and professionalism. Crew was polite and very efficient. Thank you very much, Kimberly and Ron Mowery

Once again R&K Certified Roofing has given me excellent service. I have used R&K for many years during my career as construction purchasing manager and purchasing director for Centex Homes and Holiday Builders. They have always given me an excellent product and a great price. I highly recommend R&K Certified Roofing. Tom Chambers

Over the years I have relied on R&K more than once for my roof, and they have always shown up immediately and taken care of my issue easily and affordably. Last year I had damage from Milton that took almost a year to get taken care of due to my evil insurance company. Throughout the entire process, even when another leak came in from a summer storm, R&K were there for me. I've finally completed the insurance fight and my house is whole again, thanks to R&K! And the best part, other than my beautiful new roof and repaired siding, is that I was treated like family. They empathized with my horrible situation and went out of their way to work with me and my public adjuster. I would literally NEVER consider another company as long as I own a house in this town. These days, it's very hard to find a company that still cares about the person in the business deal. But, it's something this company does without blinking twice. Thank you again, R&K!

We had an exceptional experience and cannot say enough wonderful things about the professionalism, quality & kindness of R&K Roofing. They went above and beyond — from Owner Ken Reed to Doc the Project Supervisor to Hector who led the crew to all in the office, their level of dedication and the rare “taking pride in your work” shines through with R&K. Highly recommend for all your roofing & construction needs!
