From our shop on US 1 in Bunnell it is a straight run north to St. Augustine, and we work throughout the county: St. Augustine and Vilano Beach, St. Augustine Beach and Anastasia Island, Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, World Golf Village and Fruit Cove. Each part of the county asks something different of a roof.
Inside the City of St. Augustine’s five Historic Preservation zoning districts, roof work generally needs a Certificate of Appropriateness before it starts. The city may approve a replacement with matching materials and design administratively; a change of material or profile generally goes to the Historic Architectural Review Board. Ask about it at your inspection so the schedule accounts for it. The city explains the process on its HARB applications page.
A roof replacement in Florida needs a building permit, and where it comes from depends on the address. Unincorporated communities such as Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, World Golf Village and Fruit Cove are permitted through St. Johns County’s Building Department; the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach issue their own.
Vilano Beach, St. Augustine Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach face the Atlantic directly. Salt air goes after fasteners, flashing and drip edge long before the roof covering; our guide to salt air roof damage shows what to look for.
The county’s housing runs from Spanish-style tile to standing-seam metal to architectural shingle. We work on all three: tile roofs, metal roofs and shingle roofs.
